Brick masonry is a most important job in the construction of a house, as it creates the main structure of internal and external walls. The cost of brickwork has also increased due to the increase in material and labor rates in 2026. So, it is very important for both the contractor and the client to understand the correct market rates of brick masonry work.
In this article, we will explain the complete rate breakdown of brick masonry — including material costs, labour charges, and the final market rate per square feet.
The current average rates (in Gujarat and similar areas) are as follows:
4.5-inch wall (partition wall): ₹100–₹130 per sq ft
9-inch wall (external wall): ₹130–₹160 per sq ft
Above rate includes both material and labour.
For standard residential projects in Gujarat, contractors generally quote: ₹120 to ₹150 per sq ft (standard quality)
Material Cost Details
Material cost is the biggest part of brick masonry. It mainly consists of bricks, cement and sand.
1.Bricks
Red bricks: ₹7 – ₹12 per piece
Fly ash bricks: ₹5 – ₹8 per piece
Consumption:
4.5" wall → approx. 5 bricks per sq ft
9” wall → approx. 10 bricks per sq ft
Cost per sq ft: ₹40 – ₹120 (depends on quality)
2. Cement and Sand (Mortar)
Usually mortar ratio is 1:6 (cement: sand)
Cement: ₹350 – ₹420 per bag
Sand: ₹1200 – ₹1800 per brass
Mortar cost: ₹30 – ₹50 per sq ft
Total Material Cost: ₹80 – ₹150 per sq ft (only material)
Labor Charges
Labor charges depend on site conditions and the difficulty of the work.
Mason (Mistri): ₹700 – ₹1200 per day
Helper: ₹500 – ₹700 per day
Labor rate: ₹20 – ₹40 per sq ft
Labor costs may increase if the building is too high or access is difficult.

1.) Location
Costs are higher in urban areas than rural area due to variation in labour charges & material cost.
2.) Material Quality
Higher quality bricks and sand increase costs. So, Quality of material & cheap mason / labour directly proportional to the quality.
3.) Wall Thickness
A 9-inch wall costs almost double that of a 4.5-inch wall with respect to material & lobour.
4.) Site Conditions
Height, space means lead and lift of material and transportation of labour & material play an important role in it.
5.) Market Rates
Cement, fuel and transportation rates creates variation in labour charges and material cost.
